For years, I took for granted the beautiful landscape of upstate New York. It wasn’t until I moved to California that I realized how much I missed the colors of November.
I recently watched a video post by Steve Huff and puff regarding the software he uses to get a richer contrast off the Epson scanners. Im using my friends office to work today, the epson is his so Im not going to screw around with it. Im sure any contrast issues can be worked out using any one of the photo editing software available today. I wanted to be able to post some photos up with out going to the darkroom to print. Here are a few scans via the Epson V600 photo scanner. Leica M2 with 35mm Nokton, Nikon FE2 and 50mm 1.4, Kentmere 35mm film Iso 400. Processed by CRC NYC. scanned on EPSON v600 with no post.
I recently purchased a nikon FE2 and Nikon 50mm 1.4 lens for $165.00, craigslist rocks! great deal and the camera looks to be nearly unused. I bought a few rolls of student grade film ( what my budget allowed) and hit the streets of chinatown. I love the Nikon FE2, at first it was just another nikon that wasn’t an F2 or F3 but after a day of shooting with it, I quickly realized that I have underestimated this camera. The light meter is accurate and tested against my sekonic L758DR. Amazing! It feels solid in the hand and is a quick shooter. Its heavier than my Fuji X100s but so is my iphone with my bomb proof case. I am considering a second FE2 body as a back up. I had fun shooting my Leica M2 but since my 35 Cron had an issue, things feel generic when i use my 35 nokton. Until I save enough cash to fix my summicron, this Little nikon beast will have to do. Tech specs – Aperture priority, light meter built in, uses old manual E or auto lenses not sure if the older non AI lenses will work, you get shutter speeds up to 1/4000th with a max syn speed of 250 for flash. body is solid and built like a tank! here are some sample photos. Everything shot with Nikon Fe2 and 50mm 1.4 nikon lens and Kentmere 400 negative black and white print film.
So just to keep everyone updated. I recently moved back to New York city. I have been shooting a lot of film these days. My bag consists of a leica M2 with 35mm 1.4 nokton and a Nikon Fe2 with nikon 50mm 1.4, sekonic L758dr light meter, Diana lomo camera and a few dozen rolls of 35mm and 120 film and polaroids. I also carry my newly purchased x100s and my trusty xe-1 for when the sun goes down. I will scan a few negatives as soon as I process.
I would like to setup a few photo walks and maybe even start teaching a basic class on camera operation (analog only) if you are interested or know someone who might be into learning, send them my way =) ok, thats all for now, Just wanted to let everyone know I was still alive and still actively shooting.
I had some time in the AM to meet with a singer/ songwriter from Scottsdale AZ. She is currently working on her first EP and hopes for it to be out really soon. Lauren riley, is an amazing singer and a fun free spirit. I hope my simple photos do her justice. I shot this with a Fujifilm XE-1 and 18mm lens. used instagram for post prod but will be working on the official photos with lightroom and photoshop very soon.
I also shot with a leica M2 today. I havent processed the roll yet but will do so as soon as i have time.
I’ll post that up as soon as I get it processed. I am excited!!
